B&N Nook Pre-Order Issues

“This title is a pre-order item and is not yet available for download.”

So, I pre-ordered the nook book version of A Perfect Blood, by Kim Harrison. It came out today, and even though I got an email stating it was now available for download, (at 1:26am EST, no less), I got the above “not available” lie from my nook app.

I know full well that the nook app is super buggy and does not work as well as the actual nook program. The refresh button isn’t available unless you turn your tablet to landscape orientation, the search button on the store is never available since the store side is always in portrait orientation, and it takes forever and a day for nook to open both the app and any book you try to read. I guess this is just yet another reason why I won’t be surprised if/when Barnes and Noble goes the way of Borders.

Thankfully, at least for this bug, there’s a way around it.

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > B&N Nook. Press the “Clear Data” button. Go back to the Nook app. (You’ll need to log in again.) As long as the book is actually available to download, you will now be able to do so.

I’d read online that I would need to re-download all of the books I’d downloaded previously, but for me this didn’t seem to be the case. It may only be true on older versions of the app, or on different platforms. Be forewarned that it may apply to you even though it did not apply to me.

So download your books and get to reading, already!
