How to Clear your Cache

Make sure to clear your cache so you are viewing the most recent, updated version of your site. Each browser has what is called a “cache”, or saved versions of images, scripts and files of websites that are stored on your computer to improve load time of sites on subsequent viewings. If your cache hasn’t been cleared recently while your site is in development, you will probably be viewing an older version of a site instead of seeing the most current version.

In IE8, you hold down the Alt key and go to Tools >> Delete Browsing History. (The same thing can be pulled up by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Delete.) Make sure at least the “Temporary Internet Files” box is checked and press the “Delete” button.

In Firefox 3.5+, go to Tools >> Clear Recent History (or Ctrl + Shift + Delete). Make sure at least the “Cache” button is checked and press the “Clear Now” button.

In Windows Safari, hold down the Alt key and go to Edit >> Empty Cache (Ctrl + Alt + E) and press the “Clear” button.

In Opera 10+, press the red Menu button with the pull-down box and go to Settings >> Delete Private Data. Open the Detailed Options button and make sure at least the “Delete Entire Cache” box is checked. Press the “Delete” button at the bottom of the box.

In Google Chrome, click the wrench icon wrench icon on the browser toolbar. Go to Tools >> Clear browsing data (or Ctrl + Shift + Delete). Make sure at least the “Empty the Cache” checkbox is checked and press the “Clear browsing data” button.

Once your cache is cleared, hit F5 to refresh the page and you should see the latest version of your site.
